Invitation to Attend
I take great pleasure in inviting you to attend the combined meeting of the 14th Australasian Plant Breeding Conference (APBC) & 11th Congress of the Society for the Advancement of Breeding Research in Asia and Oceania (SABRAO) from Monday 10 to Friday 14 August 2009 at the Cairns Convention Centre, Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, Australia.

In 2009 the Australasian Plant Breeding Conference and Society for the Advancement in Breeding Research in Asia and Oceania Congress combine to focus on the theme of: Contemporary Crop Improvement: A Tropical View. The program includes nationally and internationally renowned speakers who will address a wide spectrum of current crop improvement issues and challenges. With key opinion leaders and decision makers present, this Conference is the ultimate forum for plant breeders, supporting professionals, and allied industry stakeholders from tropical and temperate regions to exchange ideas, hear about the latest international and national research findings, and learn about new developments.

The collaboration of these two conferences has come at a crucial time to encourage working more closely together to overcome the critical challenges of food security and sustainability.,.

Of course, it is not all work! A fantastic social program highlighting the best that Cairns has to offer will facilitate ongoing informal discussions and information exchange in a relaxed atmosphere. The conference also presents you with the opportunity to visit the only place in the world with two adjoining World Heritage treasures; the Great Barrier Reef and Australia’s Tropical Rainforest and August is one of the best times of the year to experience these attractions!

On behalf of the organising committee, I look forward to welcoming you to the Conference in Cairns in August.

Yours Sincerely
Dr Nils Berding
